Adapted from the Li Bi Hua novel of the same name, Stanley Kwan’s acclaimed multi-award-winning film Rouge is one of Hong Kong’s true cinematic gems, and widely regarded as an Asian film classic.

Anita Mui plays Fleur, a high-class courtesan in the 1930s who begins a passionate love affair with Twelfth Master Chan Chen Pang (Leslie Cheung). With their love for each other doomed, due to Chan’s disapproving family, the two lovers resolve to be together in the afterworld by swallowing opium.

However, finding herself alone in the afterworld for fifty years, Fleur re-immerges in the world of the living, and with the help of two journalists, Yuen (Alex Man) and his girlfriend, Chor (Emily Chu), sets out to look for her long lost lover.

Anita Mui takes on the role of Kwashima Yoshiko, in the film biopic of the tragic life of Manchuria’s last crowned princess.

Kawashima Yoshiko (Anita Mui), bornof Manchu nobility, is sent by her father Prince Zu to Japan to be trained as a spy by Namihaya Kawashima, a modern day samurai. In a fit of rage, Namihaya takes Yoshiko's virginity, causing her to embark on a career that will see her try to restore Manchu rule. For political reasons, she is married off to a Mongolian prince by the Japanese, with the hope of forming a Manchurian and Mongolian coalition rule. However her marriage is a failure. Later, Yoshiko moves to Shanghai, where her beauty and ruthless determination, and the aid of a Japanese General, helps resurrect the Manchu throne for China's last emperor Pu Yi.

In this romantic melodrama set during the Sino-Japanese conflict, Anita Mui stars as Mui Ye, a singer at her father’s nightclub in Shanghai. Mui Ye is pregnant with her former lover’s baby, Liang Seng (Tony Leung Kai Fai), a man she truly loves, but with his duties during the war, Mui Ye is oblivious as to whether he is even still alive. With the Japanese occupation, Anita responds to the proposal of a Japanese officer and marries him. As the war concludes, Liang Seng returns to find his lost love and is heart broken to discover her new life.

Director Tsui Hark takes the reigns from John Woo in a prequel to the much revered film series with A Better Tomorrow III.

Set during the Vietnam War, Mark (Chow Yun Fat) travels to Saigon to join his cousin Mun (Tony Leung Ka Fai), just as he gets out of jail. Using a contact in the Vietnamese army, the two soon start trafficking black market weapons with a beautiful female assassin named Kit (Anita Mui). After a deal goes horribly wrong, they all flee to Hong Kong where Kit’s feelings for Mark grow. However, Mark is aware of Mun’s strong feelings for Kit, leaving the three in a complicated love triangle. Making matters worse is the return of Kit’s former lover Ho, a crime boss who doesn’t take too kindly to Mark and Mun’s advances on Kit. After attempting to the kill the two cousins, a new war begins between Mark, Mun,and their new adversary, Ho.
