Anita Mui takes on the role of Kwashima Yoshiko, in the film biopic of the tragic life of Manchuria’s last crowned princess.
Kawashima Yoshiko (Anita Mui), bornof Manchu nobility, is sent by her father Prince Zu to Japan to be trained as a spy by Namihaya Kawashima, a modern day samurai. In a fit of rage, Namihaya takes Yoshiko's virginity, causing her to embark on a career that will see her try to restore Manchu rule. For political reasons, she is married off to a Mongolian prince by the Japanese, with the hope of forming a Manchurian and Mongolian coalition rule. However her marriage is a failure. Later, Yoshiko moves to Shanghai, where her beauty and ruthless determination, and the aid of a Japanese General, helps resurrect the Manchu throne for China's last emperor Pu Yi.
